Now Hiring - Managing Attorney

Salary: $93,000- $124,000 per year  Location: Nashville

The Managing Attorney will provide day-to-day management for roughly 40 staff including 6 direct reports in the Nashville Office. In addition, this position will lead diversity, equity and inclusion efforts at the firm. This position will also provide legal representation to eligible clients and carry a caseload in the area of employment law. As part of a holistic approach, representation may include varying areas of law as needed, administrative advocacy, and community education for clients in accordance with program guidelines, priorities, and the Code of Professional Responsibility. This person will also be a representative in the local service area, establish relationships with community leaders and assist with identifying opportunities for targeted outreach, increased effectiveness and systemic impact and pursuit of new funding sources. This position is funded in part by, and in collaboration with, one or more grants. Personnel must adhere to goals and outcomes detailed in the grant contract. This position is funded for the duration of the grant and subsequent renewal may result in modification of job duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities include:

Provide high quality legal representation to individuals in accordance with the Rules of Professional Conduct.
Provide legal help to clients with unemployment compensation, wage claims, discrimination claims and enforcement of other employment rights; and access to job training programs.
Act as the firm liaison concerning affirmative action and equal employment opportunities.
Review and supervise the work of support staff members done on behalf of the Managing Attorney’s clients.
Maintain accurate and orderly client files, adhering to case management database policies and guidelines.
Participate in the firm’s community education program, by being available to speak with community groups and agency staff, suggesting ideas for and helping to prepare and update community education materials.
Develop and/or acquire training and development to aid diversity and retention initiatives including leading the firm's Racial Justice and Equity Team.
Comply with relevant portions of the Legal Services Corporation’s Performance Criteria and with the American Bar Association’s Standards for the Provision of Civil Legal Aid.

Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (JD) and 4 plus years of legal practice.
3 plus years of supervisor experience.
Admitted to practice in Tennessee, eligible for admission through reciprocity, or willing to take first available bar examination. Excellent research, writing, and advocacy skills including the ability to advocate in a clear, effective and logical manner both orally and in writing.
Basic proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel software.
Effective oral and written communication skills, including in client interviews and helping persons in crisis.
Prioritize work, plan and problem-solve, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is a plus.
Passion for racial justice and equity as demonstrated by past experience and/or education.

Roles and Responsibilities

Provide employment law advice on matters arising under state and federal law, and preparation or review of employment-related documents.
